Green – colour of hope
We choose the colour of our clothes in respect to different aspects. Normally it is a mixture of personal taste and fashion. The colours of fashion change as well as the colours we prefer change from time to time. Nevertheless the colours that suit us don’t change. And still nobody wants to wear every day the same clothes, underwear or colours.
I talked in the last months about white, black and pink for example. Today I want to have a closer look at green. Green is not just green. There are so many different shades of green that you might see different colours. At the moment green is a fashionable colour. Now you will find for example green underwear in all imaginable varieties in the shops.
In earlier times green was related to poison because then they coloured everything with copper-rust, which was dissolved by arsenic. Then green had a very negative meaning. Almost all green paint contained those chemicals. Today that’s different. Green is not poisoning anymore.
Today green is the colour of health, ecology, environmental protection and stands therefore for future. Terms and concepts we all know are: green lung, green thumb, eat green and in Europe each country has a green party.
Even in church green is known, it is a ritual colour used on Sundays without memorial services. Green stands for the Holy Ghost. Further aspects show those associations: Green is the colour of nature, spring, a new love, hope, all the new, life in general and liberty.
Hope and liberty are things, which are very important for our society and us particularly if we see them in danger. We react very critical and act even if it doesn’t affect us. But why is green related to hope? Well, that’s an observation from nature. In spring we notice new life and growth first in the plant’s green buds and their small light green leaves.
Liberty proves itself less obvious. But that doesn’t mean that there exits no connection. Green is used here symbolically it stands for the liberty to go wherever you want to go. Green light not only refers to traffic but to all sorts of projects.
People tend to visualise their feelings and thoughts, colours are one possibility to do so. Green underwear can do that for you. Sometimes it is fun to wear underwear in a different colour. Green underwear might be something new in your life. Green is hope. Try it!
